Mind Over...Money?

I have a strange relationship with money. The idea of money seems both very tangible and wholly interdimensional at the same time. When I read this article I was totally shocked. Yes, I knew that there were people in this world who could afford to spend $600 USD on a dinner for two but this blogger just seemed so normal. Her voice in her blog is very relateable and down to earth and I just felt like, hey maybe she is similar to me. Yet just the affluence that she enjoys separates her vastly in my mind from one moment to another.

The Reading Challenge

I am a book buying addict.

It is ridiculous. I own around 70-80 books and have only been gifted around 15 of them.

Recently a counted all the books that I owned and haven't read cover to cover or even started. I was appalled at myself. 21 books that I own and have never finished.

And the mission begins. So on Tuesday I wrote down the list of books and categorized them. I am trying to power house through them. Here's the list:

Government Mandated Rape?

Virginia House Getting All Up in Your Vagina (Article)

In my view this is basically state required rape by a doctor. A woman should NEVER be forced to have anything she does not want in her vagina. To require a procedure like this is basically humiliating a woman and intimidating her into not having a medical procedure that is legally available to her.

In one definition article I read it said this:

If You're Going to be a Player Have Some Decency

Really? Really? Really little player Mormon boy?

LDS standards may not say that you can't be a man whore but you are not representing your religion well if you're preaching to me one moment and then flirt with three different girls the next minute (in the same room no doubt!

Let's Talk

Watched the Vagina Monologues tonight.

We/I/Society/People in general need to be more open about sex.

Because if we can't say vagina, then we can't say rape or sexual abuse.

And if we can't talk about it then it will never stop happening.

Expectations: Make it or Break it

There is something funny about expectations: they change everything.

15th Birthday: Moderate expecations->had a great time
16th Birthday: Big expectations-> didn't have a ton of fun.
17th Birthday: Low expectations-> had a good time

I have thinking about the idea of expectations a lot lately (ya know valentines stuff) and it would seem to be that the more you expect the less you appreciate.

Group Projects (disclaimer: this is a rant)

I HATE GROUP ACCOUNTABILITY!!!!

In my literature history class on friday we get thrown a curveball assignment where our groups have to get together and create a review sheet for two assigned authors so that the group can study and our teacher can make a test from it. Well that's hunky dory, I wouldn't mind the assignment if we had been told in advance. Assigned friday due sunday or monday.

I also wouldn't mind it if it wasn't on a weekend. No one wants to get together to do a group project on a weekend. So I decided to take charge and create a google doc for it so we don't have to meet in person. Then guess what?

Movements Start Small

So many times we as Americans we say how something in society or culture bugs us but we never feel like we can make a difference. Today I heard a great story and had a great experience about how individuals can make a difference.
